To celebrate the 450th anniversary of the birthday of William Shakespeare, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London is hosting a 'Cakespeare' cake baking competition to run in correlation with their Shakespeare Festival. Participants simply bake a cake, Shakespeare-ify it, and upload it to a social media site by May 4th using the hashtag, #cakespeare. Winners will be selected by actor Jane Asher and director of the V&A department of theatre and performance, Geoff Marsh.
The winner will win a weekend for two to Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's hometown, and tickets to see the Royal Shakespeare Company. Asher already submitted her cake, equipped with a writing desk, feather quill made from icing, scroll listing all 36 plays from Shakespeare's First Folio, and a quote from the Twelfth Night: "Do you think because you are virtuous, that there shall be no more cakes and ale?" I mean, you might as well not even bother entering if these are the standards:
Why, yes I did need to post each of these pictures. I wanted you to see the full range of Asher-with-cake poses. I have scoured the internet and the submissions are in. You all lose. Asher wins.
